Hubei Uni of Chinese Medicine Enhances Energy Management with LoRaWan Technology
Advanced Energy Monitoring Platform and Smart Meters Transform Campus Energy Infrastructure
Wuhan, Hubei Province - Hubei University of Chinese Medicine, a leading institution for traditional Chinese medicine education in China, has significantly upgraded its energy management system, adopting the TimeWave energy monitoring platform and LoRaWAN communication technology to optimize energy usage on campus.
Established in 1954 as Hubei Traditional Chinese Medicine Training School, the university has undergone multiple expansions and name changes, most recently being renamed Hubei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2010. As of May 2021, the campus spans over 1,610 mu, or approximately 267 acres, with a total building area of 510,000 square meters.
The university has implemented a cutting-edge energy management system to modernize its infrastructure, utilizing the TimeWave energy monitoring platform and the meter reading and charging system. This has been coupled with LoRaWAN communication technology, which allows for efficient localization deployment across the sprawling campus.
The system includes 70 single-phase meters, 6070 three-phase meters, and four LoRa Gateway devices to facilitate remote meter reading. TimeWave's energy supervision platform enables remote power-on and power-off, time-sharing power supply, load identification, data summary, and report export. Faculty and staff can now easily access their energy usage data and perform pre-payment recharges via WeChat on their mobile phones.
This innovative upgrade has transformed the energy infrastructure of two campus student apartments and teacher apartments without any additional wiring required. Not only is it more environmentally friendly, but also shortens the construction time by 2/3, and the corresponding maintenance and troubleshooting time will also be greatly shortened.
